Beach volleyball is a very fun, dynamic, and exciting sport. Not only that, but it also gets you outside and allows you spend time with close friends. However, we understand that beach volleyball can also be somewhat intimidating if you have never played before. Here at SmackFest, we want to encourage you to sign up for one of the beach volleyball leagues at Hermosa Beach. We are sure that you will have the time of your life. For those of you who are new to beach volleyball, we have a few terms that we thought you might want to become familiar with:
This is a common volleyball term that identifies a serve that scores a point without any opponent’s touching the ball. If this isn’t motivation for you to master your overhand serve, we don’t know what is!
A dig may indicate a tough play made by the defensive team after an opponent’s attack. These plays are usually difficult, but the defensive team was able to respond with a playable ball.
A fault is when a player illegally touches the net while the ball is in play. This term can also describe a serve that hits the net instead of going over it.
A spike indicates when an offensive player attempts to get a kill by hitting the ball in a hard, overhand motion.
