Whew, that was a battle!! Smackfest 2015 was very unusual … lightning storm … clear the beach? In JULY ??!! The City had some issues with various aspects (primarily the amount of beer in coolers left on the beach). So we received a letter in October stating the event would not happen in 2016. Tough pill to swallow … but the good news is Bill met with the City Manager, Police Chief, etc. on a number occasions over the Winter and worked out a plan that the City was happy with.

The event went before Hermosa Council last night and was approved 4-0. Thanks to all the council members, City Staff, and the Police Chief for their support. Also special thanks to those who helped – Dave Fulton, Ray D, and especially Chris Brown (his position on the City keeping with beach lifestyle/tradition was a HUGE help).

The Smackfest Coed 4’s Volleyball tournament began in 1994 to commemorate the inception of Smack Sportswear. It had become the largest Coed 4’s Beach Volleyball tournament in the country, which embodies the So Cal lifestyle of sand, sun, beautiful people, and volleyball. We thank all the participants from the South Bay (Hermosa, Manhattan, Redondo Beach), Southern California, and the rest of the country to their support – and invite others to either play or attend – it’s a wonderful experience.
