The mission of Smackfest Events is to offer young professionals in South Bay California an opportunity to enjoy the So Cal lifestyle and enhance their lives through athletic activity and social opportunities.  Many people have met their significant others through Smackfest Events, and some have gone on to get married.  In the end, we hope that participating in Smackfest Events brings happiness to all.

Bill Sigler, founder of Smackfest Events, taught himself to play beach volleyball in the early 90′s.  Being a former collegiate athlete, and living on the beach in So Cal, volleyball soon became his primary passion.  So much so that he started what is now the  top volleyball clothing company, Smack Sportswear (in 1994 at the Manhattan Beach Pier).

The first Smackfest Coed 4′s tournament (held to launch Smack Sportswear) was held at 15th St. in Manhattan Beach.  The tourney had about 40 participants.  The after party was at an apartment complex on 13th and Morningside Dr. that was closed for renovations … we used their pool/courtyard and had a huge party.  Smackfest moved to 8th St. in Hermosa in 1999, where ~150 people participated.  In the coming years other beach volleyball tournaments like the Cross Dress Open, 80′s Open, etc. were also added to the event schedule.  Smackfest then moved to Hermosa Pier in 2002, and by 2009 over 1000 people were playing Hermosa beach volleyball, with thousands of spectators.  In 2012, Smackfest added a Pro 4′s division, allowing top pros, Olympians, and legends a chance to play a high-level competition for a prize of $10,000 (provided by Bud Light).  And in 2015, Smackfest Events is partnering with Volleyball Ventures to host 10 Hermosa Pier events.

Bill started teaching classes in 1995 with AVP pro and present CEO of the National Volleyball League, Albert Hannemann.  From classes with Al-b at Marine St, to teaching for the City of Manhattan Beach, his classes combined fitness, building and enhancing skills, and a great social opportunity for people to create friendships.  In 1999, Bill began teaching classes for the City of Hermosa (Classes take place Thurs nights from March thru Oct, and Sat. mornings from Sept thru June).

A few years later he started the Coed 4′s League for the City of Hermosa.  The league is held Tuesday nights as the Hermosa Beach pier, and sells out every session (run from March-Oct).  In 2013, Smackfest Events started a Sand Kickball league, which is growing in popularity (held on the beach Wed. evenings).  Along with all the classes, leagues, and events, Smackfest Events has promoted dozens of parties, and in 2013 was brought in to run the Coed 4′s and 6 Person Tournaments for the largest beach volleyball event ever in the US, the World Series of Beach Volleyball.
